With the proliferation of e-bikes over the past few years and the increased power capability of EV motors they are being built around, the lines between what constitutes a “motorcycle” and an “e-bike” are becoming blurrier by the day.
The California-based SUPER73 is one of our favorites players in the e-bike game at the moment and they just blurred those lines even more with their electric motorcycle C1X Concept. The C1X is a street-legal concept that SUPER73 are calling a “step-up” vehicle from their current offerings. The C1X offers “motorcycle performance” in a smaller more agile platform than most mainstream entry-level motorcycles.
We admit, we’re suckers for the SUPER73 brand. Interestingly, we’ve seen more than a few non-motorcycle riders take our SUPER73’s for a spin and come back saying they’d reconsider riding a motorcycle after the experience. Apparently, that was also the consensus collected from a wide range of SUPER73 riders and owners.
“Development of the C1X is the direct result of feedback from existing SUPER73 riders,” states the press release from Super73, “33% of whom expressed interest in graduating to a street-legal motorcycle.”
SUPER73 claims the C1X will be capable of speeds more than 75mph, and will require riders to hold a valid motorcycle license to operate as well as registration and insurance on the vehicle.

By starting with research around current entry-level motorcycles and what prevented new riders from entering the market, SUPER73 created the C1X to be accessible, easy to ride and to have maximum maneuverability for new and seasoned riders alike. The C1X will have a 51” wheel base, 15” wheels, and a 31” seat height with a rearward mounted electric motor. For comparison, that’s an inch taller and 4” longer than a Honda Grom. Weight specs were not yet released though SUPER73 noted that the C1X will feature a “mass-centralized” chassis and battery configuration which is under wraps until further testing is finished.
It’s hard not to get excited when new players enter the motorcycle market – especially when what they’re building increases the total size of the market for everyone. Disruptors like SUPER73 are critical to the evolution of two-wheeled motorized transport. As soon as we can get our hands on one of these, expect to see plenty of testing and a full review.
