Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.
- Hunter S. Thompson
Faster, faster. From the beginning, we're programmed to seek it: run faster to hunt more efficiently; travel faster to claim more uncharted land; produce faster to own more market share; compute faster to gain more knowledge.
Speed has an inherent link to survival, but it's hard to ignore its correlation to the simple pursuit of more and the momentary thrill that comes along with it. Without progress, though, we remain in an endless loop of thrill-seeking.
