About six months ago, Paul Ambrose walked into our shop unannounced with a wild idea – take the best things about the Northeast and put them into an experiential shop where craftsmen, artists and wild-eyed creatives could display their wares and share their stories. We are all about crazy ideas, so our conversations with Paul continued over the course of his planning, plotting and creation of the space that is set to open in less than a week now. Toboggan, a name that was derived from it's etymology "to slide together," is located in downtown Portsmouth, NH, a city well known for its coastal quirkiness and a hotbed for entrepreneurs and artists alike.
Toboggan will feature New England made products, creations and services in a way that is less of a shopping experience and more of a journey into the stories and inspirations behind these brands. New England native brands Powder Jet Snowboards, Finn Utility, Iron & Air Magazine, Grain Surfboards, Tamworth Lyceum, Parlor Skis, Port City Peds, Jimbos Surf Candles, Mr. Fox Composting, and more will be on rotation in the newly constructed space. Brands from outside New England will also have a presence such as Poler, Janus Motorcycles, and many more to come.
The grand opening event is Friday evening, November 22nd, from 4 pm-close. Iron & Air will be there with the latest Issue Eleven and cover artist Chris Myott. There will be live music and live art in the evening.
